I have worked for non-profit organizations my entire adult life in numerous capacities, as a volunteer, intern, employee, and consultant. I have worked at small organizations with only five employees, and at a university with thousands.
Much of my work history is centered on at-risk children and youth. I have worked as a research assistant at a center on child abuse and neglect and as a Bilingual Foster Care Licensing Specialist. In addition, I have coordinated after-school and in-school programs to improve at-risk students’ academic achievement and prevent substance abuse and violence.
I have a B.A. in Sociology from Baylor University, and an M.A. in Applied Sociology from Loyola University Chicago, where my focus of study was community organizations and urban poverty. I was a Graduate Fellow at the Center for Urban Research and Learning, where I conducted program evaluations at numerous non-profit organizations across Chicago, as well as community surveys. I also completed a community organizing internship, where I worked on affordable housing issues in a gentrifying community.
After moving to Los Angeles, I coordinated an urban experiential education semester at a university, developing and supervising student internships with over forty community organizations, and designing and conducting program evaluations. Now, I love helping non-profits get the resources they need to do their work.
In addition to my consulting work, I volunteer at a nonprofit that works with children and youth in Venice and Mar Vista. I am also involved in the Culver City Time Bank, a collective of neighbors in Culver City, Palms, and Mar Vista who exchange time and skills with one another to transform our community.
